Chester Cricket wanted to keep the bell to remember the Bellinis and his friends in the subway station. Tell us about a special memento you have kept from a place you visited. Why is it special and was it hard for you to leave like it was for Chester?
Chester Cricket has decided to retire and return to Connecticut. He has played his last concert for the people of New York City. From Connecticut, Chester Cricket had been trapped in a picnic basket and brought to the city by humans on a subway. How do you think Chester Cricket will manage to get back to Connecticut? Mario can tell that something is wrong with Chester. Mario says, “I almost wish he hadn’t come to New York – if he isn’t going to be happy here.” What do you think Mario means by that and what does that tell you about Mario’s character? Mr. Smedley didn’t believe Mario at first when he said his cricket could chirp real songs. Then, as he listened, he realized it was true! Mr. Smedley listened to Chester Cricket’s music for an hour at the Bellini’s stand. He was so impressed by the music that he wrote a letter to The New York Times describing how amazing Chester Cricket’s music was! After his letter showed up in the New York Times and everyone in New York reads it, what do you think will happen? Mama Bellini’s mood changed when Chester Cricket started to chirp Italian Opera. She was happy because the song reminded her of when they were younger and Papa Bellini used to sing to her, outside of her window in Italy. Tell us about a song that makes you feel good when you hear it and why you think it makes you feel good. In this chapter, Chester Cricket, Tucker Mouse, and Harry Cat had a wonderful party to celebrate having known each other for 2 months! Mario and Chester Cricket had a lot of different Chinese foods that night. Tell us about your favorite Chinese foods! Chester Cricket walked in his sleep to the cash register and when he awoke, he found that he had eaten half of a two dollar bill! Tucker suggested several ideas to help Chester escape punishment: 1. He could leave 2. He could eat the rest and the Bellinis would blame each other 3. They could make it look like someone stole it 4. Tucker could steal a 2 dollar bill from the lunch counter. Chester Cricket didn’t want to take any of Tucker’s ideas. He wanted to be honest. What does this tell you about Chester Cricket’s character? Tucker Mouse admired Chester Cricket’s new cage from China Town. Tucker got inside the cage and said he felt like the Emperor of China in the pagoda cage. Chester said he did not like the feeling of being locked in a cage because he is more used to tree stumps and holes in the ground. Between the cricket cage and the matchbox, which one would you choose to sleep in and why? |
